Designed by Australian studio Paul Morgan Architects this house situated on an expansive property in Australia’s South-Eastern state of Victoria. The four-bedroom house is inspired by surround conditions of this exposed rural setting. It is self-sustaining in a remote and harsh environment without existing services. The house was sited high enough to maximize the view from the house but low enough so that the view of the brow of the hill and the silhouette of trees was not disturbed. Strathbogie granite, quarried from the site itself, creates a warm and tactile backdrop in several rooms and its inherent colours determined the palette of autumnal colours, with rich timber stains. That make house design very warm and habitual. Linear design elements in the interior add it touch of modernism. The house also incorporates passive and active thermal devices like roof mounted wind scoops with electrically powered louvers allow for air ventilation from southerly wind as well as the purging of warm air during summer.
