House Design

My father was always at work out back in his little workshop, and he taught me how to fix and build all manner of household projects so I figured, why should drawing and building ranch house designs be any different.

Sinus House Black And White Exterior

I've wanted to design my own ranch house for years, but was hindered by a lack of architectural knowledge. I've been pretty handy since I was little.

I've never been one to let common sense stand in my way. I thought that ranch house designs would be easier than other houses, because they only take up one story, and so don't require as much structural support.

Sinus House Kitchen

I knew the ins and outs of wiring and plumbing, and knew a little bit about post and beam construction, so I figured what the heck, and gut an architectural CAD program to start working out some ranch house designs.

Well, as they say, live and learn. Just learning the program enough to come up with my ranch house designs was practically nightmarish. Architectural CAD programs are used by professional house designers, and ease of use is not the number one consideration which goes into designing them. Whether you're designing a ranch house, or just laying out your bathroom, there is much more that goes in to layout than you might imagine.

And then there are safety regulations which you must keep in mind. Legal ranch house designs don't just incorporate floor plan and roof. You have to learn all about designing and building a foundation, and that is another set of skills altogether.

China Imitates Brick Urban House Plans

Known for their innovative use of traditional materials – namely brick – Atelier Zhanglei created this concrete urban design, the Slit House, as an ode to custom with an eye looking toward the future. This urban house design in Nanjing, China was modeled after the adjacent homes dating back to the 1920s, only with a cool, contemporary twist. In place of grey brick, the architect opted for concrete in an abstract form. Strips of wood two inches wide were used for the concrete formwork, giving the concrete a wonderful texture reminiscent of a fine textile. The 2,900-sq.-ft. house boasts a zigzag of glass that characterizes its urban exterior while illuminating the interior. Atelier Zhanglei

House Made of Wide Variety of Materials with Aesthetic Design

Gracia Studio designed this house in Tijuana, Mexico. House Becerril is optimized to be versatile for the family’s many members and pets by creating both open common areas, in which everybody could spend some time together, and private space, in which people could be alone. There aren’t strict border between indoor and outdoor areas because of a small courtyard with a small pool located in the middle of the house. This area is also great place to take a breakfast or a snack because a kitchen is separated from it only by glass doors. The house is also an experiment in using the wide variety of materials and structural solutions. Its total area is 3,300 square feets. [Gracia Studio]

House on the Hill Linked to the Landscape

The house is situated on the top of a hill on Antiparos, in the Cycladic islands, Greece. There was a lot of challenges in designing it related to its position. First of all there was a need to protect living areas from strong winds of the Aegean Sea and to hide them from the settlement at the foot of the hill. That’s why part of the house was dug into the landscape. In the result, the house is not only protected from wind but only its second store is visible from the village. Stone surfaces defines borders of the Krater house. A 25 meter long lap pool is located at the Krater’s west part which also features amazing sea views. The kitchen’s windows frame views of the pool and its infinity-edge. A courtyard is also protected from winds and is separated from living area only with large glass sliding doors that blur the boundaries between it and the interior space. [Deca architecture]

Black and White Two Pavilions House Design by Johannsen

This Northbridge house is designed by Johannsen + Associates and located near the Spit Bridge to North Sydney. Black and white house design has two pavilions which looks like wings joined to the entry stairwell. A steel, timber and glass staircase intersects the entry foyer which is the hinge of the split level wings. The house’s design uses plenty of eco-friendly techologies like passive heating and cooling, natural ventilation, solar pool heating and rainwater tanks. With a protected central courtyard, shady terraces and a sunny pool loggia, the outdoor spaces open to different parts of the site and garden. The entertaining level is one large fluid space that takes in a panoramic vista over Middle Harbour. Finely detailed joinery elements define and give character to the living, dining and kitchen areas.-(via)
